Cabanon tents right here in the UK!

Here at IBEX Camping we are delighted to be stockists for Cabanon having a special place in our hearts , Cabanon are the brand we started our family Camping Adventures with. As we approach Valentines Day we thought we'd share a few great facts about Cabanon tents and why we love the brand. Great Quality  tents designed to give many , many years of camping trips and just a little ecofriendly too having a much lower carbon footprint than other brands.

So a little about the history of Cabanon Tents , established in 1959 Cabanon offer a range of Breathable and Waterproof Cotton Canvas frame tents , pyramid tents and Bell Tents too!

The Cabanon Espace Tent is probably one of the most recognisable tents in the Cabanon range , very reminiscent of tents from years gone by , still going strong with a few up to date  enhancements such as the zipped in Groundsheet .... no draughts!

We particularly love the design of the Cabanon Barbados tent , a 4 person Pyramid Style Tent with a small covered porch area ... the colours are great too!

Just a little more Eco Friendly thanks to Cabanons low carbon footprint compared to other brands ... all of the components for each Cabanon tents are made in France with some fabrics being sourced from around Europe , Holland , Belgium and Germany. ... 80% of the Fabrics used in Cabanon Tents are made in France!

So what about the frames .... all the Frames for each of the Cabanon tents are made in house by Cabanon.

Each tent is handmade by skilled machinists in the Cabanon factory in Dunkerque , where they have a 10,000m² manufacturing site , once restrictions change we are very much looking forward to visiting Cabanon :)

Being very much a 'handmade' company Cabanon have manufacturing schedules to ensure that the stock is available throughout the season , we are delighted to stock a core range from Cabanon Tentsright here at our premises in Little Paxton.  Some of the larger family tents especially the Cabanon Espace are ordered in just for you , with varying lead times throughout the season ...

A tip from the Team @ IBEX Camping ... when choosing a larger Cabanon tent it may be worth thinking a little earlier to ensure we can pop your tent in the manufacturing schedule for you.

Thinking of choosing a Cotton Canvas Cabanon tent there are a few useful points to bear in mind... Camping under cotton canvas is very different to Polyester , they have a much more  snug feel being a little more temperature regulating (warmer in cooder weather ...Cooler in warmer weather) they are a little more comforatble too!  It's always worth remembering that being cotton canvas they are heavier and larger in pack size than polyester equivalent tents ... also more importantly Cotton Canvas tents need to be pitched to dry  ... a larger enough garden or a friendly local campsite are needed if you have to pack down in the rain!

Our friendly Family Team of Experienced Campers are always happy to answer any questions you may have to ensure you choose the correct tent for your next Camping Adventure.

How do I get my tent back in it's bag? - Tips from The Team @ IBEX Camping

Here at IBEX Camping we are well practiced at popping our tents back in their bags , particularly  with our tent hire service , we very often pitch and de pitch again too!

So here are our tips for getting your tent packed safely back in it's bag ready for your next camping adventure!

First things first - before you start your pack down make sure your tent is completly dry , the flysheet should feel dry as well as the guylines and guyline points , check your mud flaps too water can sometimes get trapped during your camping trip. If there's any sign of water leave to dry a little longer. Don't forget to unroll any window or door coverings

While the outside of your tent is drying take a little time to check the inside too , check the edges of the groundsheet for any signs of trapped condensation. If you have internal poles - check underneath these too. Many tents are now pitch a one meaning that once you have popped your bedrooms in place you can leave them in for next time you use your tent. Don't forget to check underneath your bedrooms  condensation can sometimes get trapped under the bedrooms. Also check behind / inside any window or door coverings  that have been rolled up.

Once you're happy that your tent is completely dry inside and out , (if you need to leave the site don't worry just unpack and re pitch as soon as you can.) You can start your de pitch , check the inside of the tent thoroughly for forgotten gear ... we very often find torches in the bedroom pockets , another favourite hiding place is under the bedrooms.

Start by unpegging  your guylines  , check the weather in very windy conditions we may leave some stabilising guylines in place ... we once nearly lost a Canvas Frame Tent over the cliff tops in Yorkshire!

Poled tents either Fibreglass or Steel , remove your poles working from the front or the back depending on any wind direction , try not to create a fabric kite :) we usually have someone picking up the poles as they are removed so we don't leave any behind!

Inflatable poles deflate with the valves , when your flysheet is flat you can gently work along the poles to manually expel any remaining air from the poles , some stirrup pump also have a deflate mode to help remove any residual air.

Sewn in Groundsheets are great but they do trap air when it comes to De pitch we always leave a door open or more than one in larger tents , this gives the air an escape route when folding.  So let's begin folding ....

Start to unpeg your tent , again keep an eye on the weather if it's a little breezy simply leave a few holding pegs in place until you're ready to remove them.  Depending on the size of your tent , we would usually for larger tents start folding with the longest size , for vis a vis tunnel tents we usually start folding from the shorter edge

For either method we start by folding a section of the Flysheet to the same width of the tent bag  and towards an open door - we then fold in sections from both sides of the tent to meet and foldover in the middle - we find that folding in 3 or 4 works best depending on the size of your tent.

With each fold we carefully expel any excess air from the tent working towards the open door (s) once you have finished you should then be left with a folded tent the same width of the bag, One last gentle expel of air by pushing across the folded flysheet towards the open doorway and we're ready to start rolling.

Roll your tent again towards the open doorway , once the tent has been rolled check that it's small enough to fit the bag by sliding over your rolled tent ... if it's too large you'll probably just need to roll again! once the tent bag fits over your rolled tent simply roll over the right way up zip or clip your bag closed.

Don't forget to have a quick sweep of your pitch for poles ... we usually walk the outline of our pitching space too to check for pegs that we may have dropped or missed!

Thank you for reading our blog post , these are just our little tips ... if you have any suggestions or have any questions please don't hesitate to get in touch our family team of experienced campers are always happy to offer a little advice :)

Which Gas Regulator , 5 of the most popular

If you've  purchased your new gas stove or cooker and now it's time to choose your gas and regulator we have a few tips to help you through the process.

Your new gas appliance will usually need butane gas , this can be either Campingaz or Calor Gas they are both Butane  , the pro's and con's of either ... Calor can be a little cheaper to buy and can be a little more accessible here in the UK - Campingaz is great for when space is a consideration , their cylinders are available in 3 sizes and are a little more compact. Campingaz can be a little harder to get hold of here in the UK but much more widely available in Europe.

Once you have chosen your gas it's time to select your regulator , here at IBEX Camping we have a great range of Gas Regulators for both campers and caravanners. Our main supplier is Contintental  Product Engineering based in Norfolk. Each carries the important EN16129 Approved.

The most popular gas Regulators are the Continental R716-CG designed for use with Campingaz 901 , 904 and 907 gas cylinders

The Continental R37SN Screw Fit Propane Regulator designed for use with calor and Flogas 3.9, 6, 11, 13, 15 and 47kg propane gas Cylinders

The Continental R29b Bolt on Butane regulator designed to fit 4.5kg Calor Butane Cylinders

For Caravaners we find the following regulators popular

The Continental RC027P Clip on Propane Regultor designed for use with Calor Patio Gas 5 and 13kg Gas Cylinders and Flogas 10kg Gaslight Cylinders

The Continental RC021B Clip on 21mm Butane Gas Regulator designed to be used with Calor 7 and 15kg Calor And Flogas 7 and 13kg Butane (Yellow Cylinders Only)

Alway follow your manufacturers instructions and guidance, the team @ IBEX Camping are always happy to help if you have any questions or need a little advice.

Can use disposible gas with my gas stove that requires refillable gas? the answer is yes , we now stock a IGT Gas regulatorA500i  that allows the use of screw fit disposible gas with your camping stove or appliance , it's worth remembering though that this isn't the most economical way to run your appliance.  Disposible gas canisters tend to hold around 400g making them a little costly for larger gas appliances.

The most important thing to remember is that it's your chosen gas cylinder (must be compatible with your appliance) that determines your gas regulator.

Don't forget your Gas hose and Jubilee Clips ... most camping gas appliances aren't supplied with these but they are readily avilable.  A gas spanner is really handy too for the Butane R29B and Propane R37SN

3 Great Features of the Coleman® MacKenzie 6 Tent

We are delighted to be receiving our first 2021 shipment of the
Ideal for family camping or couples , the Coleman® MacKenzie 6 features Coleman's Patented Blackout Bedroom too!

The Coleman® MacKenzie 6 is one of our most popular Hire tents and we've pitched many times for customers so we thought we'd let you know 3 of our favourite features ....

One

With it's partial Steel Frame , the Coleman® MacKenzie 6 is very stable, with the steel poles allowing for optimum use and headheight in the main living area of the tent , which is vis a vis style , the bedrooms sit either side of the central living space

Two

For a 6 Person Tent , the Coleman® MacKenzie 6 has a great pitch size of just 600 x 320cm making it #pitchperfect for most standard campsite pitches throughout the UK.

Three

The Eyebrow canopy over the door is ideal for when the weather is a little wet , this feature stops the rain rolling off the roof and into the doorway! Great for a little sunshine shade too!

Just a little something we noticed when pitching .... it is only the main bedroom area that features full blackout , the second smaller bedroom has blackout fabric on the sides but the roof and the top of the sides are a lighter fabric as it sits in the living area.

What's New - Coleman Valdes Air Tent

We're delighted to share that our first shipment of 2021 tents is arriving from Coleman next week.  In this first shipment we'll be taking delivery of the Coleman Valdes 4XL Deluxe and the Valdes 6XL Deluxe , introduced in 2020 and extremely popular , especially the Valdes 4Xl Deluxe in 2020.

We have also discoverd this week that the original Coleman Valdes Air Tent Range is being put on hold for 2021 , these great family tents were the first inflatable tent we added to our range and didn't disappoint.  We pitched them many times for our hire customers too!

For 2021 Coleman are concentrating on The Valdes Deluxe range has a couple of new features that will takes the Valdes range to the next level ... so what's changed....

Both Models now feature a fully infllatable frame , gone have the fibreglass awning poles.

The awning area is now fully enclosed , allowing you to create a dual zone living space , great for keeping the main living area of the tent free from muddy shoes and outdoor gear!

The Side door features an eyebrow canopy , this is the only fibreglass pole on these new versions, a little but extremely useful feature - allows the door to be more easily used on wetter days and a little sun protection on warmer ones too!

The Coleman Valdes 4XL Deluxe while having the same dimensions as the original Valdes 4 tent has extended living space thanks to the covered awning area , with a doorway too!

While the Valdes 6XL Deluxe is a little shorter 665cm compared to 740cm in total, we are still waiting to pitch but feel that this will probably feel like a much more in proportion version of the Valdes 6XL plus it makes the tent a little more Pitch Friendly too!

2021 discover Tent Hire , Our Family Team Creating Camping Adventures

With Summer of 2020 being a little not quite as we expected , we worked hard to ensure that we were still able to offer our Tent Hire Service .  It took a little time , to make sure we had everything in place to keep everyone safe , but we finally got clearance from our insurance company during July.  And were delighted to be able to offer Tent Hire for the last few months of the season.

We are looking forward to a
busy 2021 season. We'll also be celebrating 10 years of Tent Hire with very fond memories of our first 'tentative' no pun intended :) year at a much loved event!

For the 2021 Season ....We have introduced our
Safe hands booking policy  just in case things are still a little unsettled still. Your booking is in completely safe hands ... If you need to cancel for any COVID related reason or due to local or national restrictions we will be issuing a full refund of any payments received.

Why we started our tent hire service .... Being
family campers ourselves  we understand that trying camping may be a little daunting ... will everyone sleep ... will we like it ... how much will it cost.... So we launched our Tent hire Service, giving families a great way to try camping without the initial what can sometimes be a costly investment and to make sure everyone is enjoys.... not that we think there is any doubt :)

As we took a look at the service we decided we wanted to go a little further and  introduced Try Before You Buy if you do love camping and decide to buy a tent , we're more than happy to deduct your daily hire charges from the price of your new tent - A great way to try before you buy too!

I'd like to try camping in the back garden..... #Gardamping

#FeastOutdoors - enjoy your garden in the winter too!

FeastOutdoors this Autumn

As we all settle into our 4 week lockdown , here at IBEX Camping we thought we'd share some of our great products that can be enjoyed in the garden during the Autumn / Winter months too ... a great way to extend your enjoyment of the garden.

In recent days our enquiries for Coleman Event Shelter spares have increased a little , we are wondering if perhaps customers are planning a little out of season use. Always remember your Coleman Event Shelter is designed for occasional use and long periods of use in the garden may deteriorate the Flysheet over time , they are readily available to buy as spares and reasonably priced too! The Coleman Deluxe Event Shelter offers a little more protection being Waterproof & steel Poles , we would always recommend taking your event shelter down between uses.

Your garden is a great place to enjoy any time of the year , cosy up around a fire table in the evenings with one of Netherton Foundry's Pure Iron Fire Tables , available in 2 sizes and arriving very soon at IBEX Camping

Enjoy a little outdoor feasting with an Netherton Foundry  outdoor hob , or chapa table both from Netherton Foundry and made from Pure Iron too! Built to last and give many years of use. Or why not an outdoor tagine , all made in the UK , with either a hand thrown and decorated Netherton Foundry Outdoor Tagine with ceramic tagine top or Netherton Foundry Outdoor Tagine hand spun copper tagine top , these make a lovely gift too!  The Netherton Foundry Chapa  is available as a solid top table ... great for the stove top too! makes perfect english muffins ..... tried and tested by the team @ IBEX Camping or with a The Netherton Foundry  Chapa BBQ top to give a more traditional chargrill effect to your food , combine with a Chapa fire table to protect your grass. The Netherton Foundry Outdoor Hob lasts for up to 4 hours from one single fill of charcoal , with a grid top you can cook directly on top too! stays warm for up to 7 hours , the Netherton Foundry Outdoor Hob is also the base for the Outdoor Tagine too.

A little chilly to cook outdoors? why not enjoy a hot chocolate with a Ghillie Kettle , available in 3 size and made in the UK the ghillie kettle is incredibly popular amongst forest school establishments and give an opportunity for the whole family to engage in nature a little while enjoying a hot chocolate! Which size should you choose? out most popular size is the  1.5l Adventurer Ghillie Kettle with the 1.0l Explorer a close second ...to use a ghillie Kettle you fill the outer kettle with water , then light a small fire in the base , anything organic will do , then simply place the kettle on top (never let the kettle boil dry or put on the fire empty) the whistle stays in place so you know when the water has boiled. Then simply add some hot chocolate powder and enjoy!
